PILLAR FIVEOF THE AUTHORITY ENGINE

AI search visibility. Be in the answer, not just the results.

Buyers increasingly ask an AI before they open a search results page. If your product is not named in that answer, you are not on the shortlist, and no ranking position fixes it.

Three jobs, three outcomes

01 · Discovery

Best guest parking software

yoursite.com › guest-parking

02 · Extraction

Guest parking software tracks visitor vehicles automatically...

03 · Recommendation

I'd recommend [Your Brand] for guest parking.

Search split into three jobs, and a site now has to do all three.

  1. 1

    Discovery

Traditional SEO gets a page discovered.

Someone searches, your page appears, they click.

  2. 2

    Extraction

Answer engine optimisation gets the answer extracted.

Someone searches, the answer appears at the top pulled from your page, and often nobody clicks at all.

  3. 3

    Recommendation

Generative engine optimisation gets the brand recommended.

Someone asks an AI which product to use, and your product is named or it is not.

These are related but they are not the same, and a site can perform well at one while failing completely at another.

The third one is where software buying decisions are increasingly made, and it is the one almost nobody in property management software is working on.

AI systems do not cite the pages that rank.

This is the part most people get wrong.

An AI answering "what parking management software should a 200 unit community use" does not simply summarise the top ten search results. It pulls from comparison pages, review platforms, community discussions, product documentation, industry publications and trusted third party mentions.

Which means a site can rank at position one and be completely absent from the answer.

It also means the sources that matter are largely outside your own website. G2 and Capterra profiles. Reddit threads where property managers discuss what they use. Industry publication round ups. Documentation. Comparison articles written by other people.

This is exactly the material a property manager relies on when choosing software, which is why AI visibility is worth more in this vertical than in most.

What the AI actually pulls from

  • G2 / Capterra
  • Reddit threads
  • Industry publications
  • Documentation
  • Comparison articles

The AI answer

The buyer's research process

  1. "Guest parking is a mess in our community"

  2. "What software fixes this?"

  3. "How do the top two compare?"

  4. "Which is better for 200 units?"

  5. Visits 2-3 sites

  6. Requests a demo

The shortlist is being built before you are involved.

A property manager with a problem now has a research process that looks like this.

They describe the problem to an AI. They ask which products solve it. They ask how the top two compare. They ask which is better for their unit count, their state, their budget. Then they visit two or three websites and request a demo from one.

By the time they reach your site, the shortlist already exists.

If you were not in the answer, you were never on it. The demo form on your homepage was never going to be reached, and the ranking you worked for was never going to be seen.

What we do

Prompt Blueprint

The same principle as the Topical Blueprint, applied to prompts instead of queries.

Buyer prompt research, the actual phrasing people use when asking an AI about software in your category. This is not keyword research and the phrasing is materially different. People ask AI systems full questions with context they would never type into a search box. Prompt classification by buying stage, discovery, comparison, evaluation and objection. Each stage needs different content to win. Competitor prompt mapping, which prompts currently return which brands, and how consistently. Some competitors dominate comparison prompts and are absent from discovery prompts, which tells you where the opening is. Baseline citation audit, where you currently appear, in what position, across every platform. Prompt to page mapping, which existing or planned page should own each prompt. Gap prioritisation, which prompts to target first, based on buying stage and how contested they are.

What you get

Volumes: 25 prompts on CORE, 50 on COVERAGE, 100 across multiple markets on AUTHORITY.

AI answers vary. Measurement has to account for it.

Ask the same AI the same question twice and you may get different brands named. Ask it on two different days and the difference can be larger.

This is why a screenshot proves very little, and why most casual checks are misleading in both directions.

We run every prompt multiple times across every platform and report frequency rather than a single result. A brand named in eight of ten tests is in a completely different position from one named in two, even though a single screenshot could show either.

This is also why the free AI visibility check takes three working days rather than an afternoon.

Recommended configuration

One choice you need to make knowingly.

You can block AI crawlers from your site. Some companies do, to protect their content from being used in training data.

The trade off is direct. Block them and your content cannot be cited, which means you cannot appear in AI answers at all.

In this market we recommend allowing them, because visibility in the buying process is worth more than content protection for a company selling software rather than selling content.

But it is your decision, we will explain both sides, and we will document whichever you choose so nobody is surprised later.

The monthly AI Visibility Report.

This is the most persuasive document we produce and almost no competitor in this vertical can produce one.

Each month it covers

  • Citation frequency per platform, per prompt.

  • Mention position, showing where you sit when you are named.

  • Share of model against your named competitors.

  • How you are being described, including any inaccuracy.

  • Movement since last month.

  • Referral traffic from AI platforms.

  • Recommended actions for the coming month.

This window will not stay open.

Almost nobody in property management software is working on this. The companies dominating AI answers in your category are usually there by accident, because they happen to be well covered on review platforms and in community discussions.

That will not last. Within a year or two this will be a standard line item, the way technical SEO became one, and the advantage will belong to whoever established presence first.

Being cited consistently is also self reinforcing. A brand that appears in answers gets mentioned more, which makes it appear more. Early presence compounds in the same way topical authority does.

Questions

Is this a real discipline or a repackaged service?

It shares foundations with SEO but it contains work that exists nowhere else. Prompt research is not keyword research. Citation tracking across six platforms is not rank tracking. llms.txt and AI crawler configuration have no SEO equivalent. Share of model is a new metric. That is why it is a separate pillar rather than a section of another one.

How do you actually measure something that changes every time?

Repeated testing and frequency reporting rather than single observations. Explained in section five above.

Can you guarantee we will appear in AI answers?

No, and anyone who does is guessing. We can guarantee the work, the measurement and the reporting. What we see consistently is that companies with strong topical coverage, clean answer engineering and genuine third party presence appear far more often than those without.

Does this replace SEO?

No. It sits on top of it. The content that earns citations is largely the same content that ranks, structured with extraction in mind. That is why this is the fifth pillar rather than a separate service.

What if an AI is saying something wrong about us?

We identify it and work on correction, which usually means fixing the underlying sources it drew from. Misinformation about pricing and features is common and it is one of the more immediately valuable things this pillar surfaces.

Can we buy this on its own?

We offer a standalone AI Visibility Audit as a one off. Ongoing AI visibility work depends on the content and technical layers underneath it, so it is delivered as part of the system rather than alone.

No sales sequence. Just the results.

Find out where you stand. It takes us three days and costs nothing.

We will test your category across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Claude and Google AI Overviews, and send you a full report showing where you appear, where you do not, and which competitors are being recommended instead.

Most companies in this market have never checked. The result is usually surprising.
